About German Tax Calculator
A free gross-to-net salary calculator for Germany, based on the same official withholding formula the Bundesministerium der Finanzen publishes for employer payroll systems.
What this is
German Tax Calculator (germany-tax-calculator.com) turns a gross German salary into an itemised net pay estimate: income tax, Solidaritätszuschlag, church tax, and all four social insurance branches, for every tax class and both the 2025 and 2026 tax years. Alongside the main salary calculator, the site also covers IG Metall ERA collective bargaining wages across all 16 German states, a Werkstudent-specific calculator, a two-earner household comparison, and dedicated calculators for Arbeitslosengeld, Kurzarbeitergeld, and rental property tax savings.
The whole site is bilingual, English and German, since the people who actually need this information split roughly evenly between the two.
How this is built
This calculator uses the same official tax and social insurance formulas that apply in Germany, updated each tax year. It's meant for general guidance. For your exact numbers, check with a tax advisor or your Finanzamt.
Primary sources only
Wage and tax data is computed based on official and industry sources. Slight deviations might be possible.
Re-verified every tax year
Each new year's constants are checked against that year's own official tables from scratch, not carried over and assumed to still hold.
Open about known gaps
Where a calculation is a deliberate simplification of a more complex statutory rule, that's documented, not silently smoothed over.
