What is ERA (Entgeltrahmenabkommen)?
ERA is the pay-grade framework negotiated between IG Metall and regional employer associations for Germany's metal and electrical industry. It defines Entgeltgruppen (pay grades) and experience steps that determine tariff wages, though each Tarifgebiet negotiates its own wage table independently.
What's the difference between T-ZUG A and T-ZUG B?
T-ZUG A is 27.5% of an employee's own bonus-inclusive monthly wage, paid in July. T-ZUG B is a fixed annual amount based on a regional reference wage (the Eckentgelt), the same for everyone in a region regardless of their own grade or hours. Both require at least 6 months of tenure to qualify at all.
How is ERA Weihnachtsgeld calculated?
Weihnachtsgeld is a percentage of the bonus-inclusive monthly wage, paid in November. The fully-vested rate is usually 55% after 36+ months of tenure (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a notable exception at 50%), scaling up gradually from around 25% at 6 months where a tenure schedule is confirmed.
Are ERA Entgeltgruppen the same in every German region?
No. Each Tarifgebiet negotiates its own wage table, so the same Entgeltgruppe (e.g. EG11) pays a different amount depending on the region, and different regions define different numbers of Entgeltgruppen and experience steps. See the region pages above for each Tarifgebiet's own full wage table.
