Chemical industry tariff: Bavaria
Wage table, working hours and special payments for the Bavaria chemical-industry bargaining region.
Table of Contents
Among the eleven western German bargaining regions with a commercial/technical split in this calculator, Bayern consistently has the lowest pay figures - a striking contrast to neighboring Baden-Württemberg, which leads the same comparison groups.
The figures come from the WSI Tarifarchiv (April 2025). No independently checked source exists yet for Bayern's special payments.
Pay groups E1 through E13
E1 sits at 3,080 EUR a month in Bayern, E6 (entry after completed vocational training) at 3,521 EUR, rising across four steps to 4,084 EUR after six years. The top commercial group E13 sits at 6,679 EUR - the lowest figure among all eleven comparable regions.
Bayern showing the lowest figure at all three reference groups doesn't automatically mean an overall lower wage level - regional cost of living, how employees are actually distributed across pay groups, and additional company benefits all factor into a real pay comparison this calculator doesn't model.

What the pay groups describe
The underlying job descriptions match every other region in this agreement: E1 for tasks that need only a short briefing, E6 for the step unlocked by a finished vocational training, and E13 for independent, experience-driven commercial or technical work.
Working hours
The contractual week is 37.5 hours, with a divisor of 163.1. At 24 weekly hours (64%), a full E6 entry wage of 3,521 EUR would come to roughly 2,253 EUR of part-time base pay.
The 2026-2028 settlement
Bayern follows the national settlement: unchanged pay through end December 2026, then 2.1% in January 2027 and 2.4% in January 2028. No region-specific published table exists for Bayern for these steps; the calculator shows them as derived.
Special payments
No independently confirmed source exists for Bayern's own holiday pay or annual bonus, so the calculator shows Nordrhein's confirmed figures as the nationwide default pattern. The nationwide Zukunftsbetrag (23% of a month's pay) applies regardless of bargaining region and is available accordingly.
Bayern compared with Baden-Württemberg
At E1, Bayern sits 86 EUR below Baden-Württemberg; at E13 commercial, the gap widens to 714 EUR. Anyone considering a move between the two states should weigh this gap alongside the respective cost of living and other company benefits, not in isolation.
The annual view
Twelve monthly salaries at E1 (3,080 EUR) total an annual gross of 36,960 EUR in Bayern - the lowest figure among all 13 regions for this group. At E6 entry level (3,521 EUR) it's 42,252 EUR, and at E13 commercial (6,679 EUR) 80,148 EUR a year.
The gap to Baden-Württemberg at the same E13 commercial group comes to 8,568 EUR a year (88,716 EUR versus 80,148 EUR) - a substantial difference between two directly neighboring states.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Bayern sit at the bottom across all three reference groups?
Each bargaining region negotiates its wage table independently. Regional cost of living, how employees are distributed across pay groups, and additional company benefits all factor into a real pay comparison this calculator doesn't model.
Will the 2027/2028 increases change this position?
The percentage increases (2.1% and 2.4%) apply uniformly to every bargaining region, so the relative gap to other regions largely persists across both steps, even as every figure rises at the same time.
