Chemical industry tariff: Berlin (West)
Wage table, working hours and special payments for the Berlin (West) chemical-industry bargaining region.
Table of Contents
Berlin (West) is one of only two bargaining regions in this calculator whose table draws no distinction between a commercial and a technical variant of the upper pay groups E9 through E13 - the other is Eastern Germany. All eleven western German flat-rate regions, by contrast, do draw that distinction.
The "West" suffix traces back to the city's historical division: wage agreements were negotiated separately for West and East Berlin for decades, a distinction that has persisted as its own label in tariff geography to this day, even though the political division itself ended in 1990.
Pay groups E1 through E13
E1 sits at 3,094 EUR a month in Berlin (West), E6 (entry after completed vocational training) at 3,589 EUR, rising across four steps to 4,163 EUR after six years. The top group E13 sits at 6,807 EUR - as a single, unified figure, not split by commercial or technical.
That unified structure at E9 through E13 means the calculator offers no variant choice for Berlin (West) in those groups - unlike, say, Nordrhein, where commercial and technical E13 positions differ by several hundred euros.

What the pay groups describe
E1 covers tasks needing only brief introduction, E6 marks entry after completed vocational training, E13 covers independent work with extensive professional experience. This structure is nationally consistent in substance.
Working hours
The contractual week is 37.5 hours, with a divisor of 163.1 - as in the western German flat-rate regions. At 32 weekly hours (about 85.3% of full-time), a full E6 entry wage of 3,589 EUR would come to roughly 3,062 EUR of part-time base pay.
The 2026-2028 settlement
Berlin (West) follows the national settlement: unchanged pay through end December 2026, then 2.1% in January 2027 and 2.4% in January 2028. No region-specific published table exists for these two steps; the calculator shows them as derived.
Special payments
No independently confirmed source exists for Berlin (West)'s own holiday pay or annual bonus, so the calculator shows Nordrhein's confirmed figures as the nationwide default pattern. The nationwide Zukunftsbetrag (23% of a month's pay) applies regardless of bargaining region and is available accordingly.
Berlin (West) compared with Eastern Germany
Berlin (West) and Eastern Germany are the only two regions in this calculator without a commercial/technical split - but they otherwise differ markedly: Berlin (West) follows the western 37.5-hour week, while Eastern Germany has its own, flexible working-time structure based on 38.5 hours. Two shared traits in table structure don't imply an overall similar arrangement.
The annual view
Twelve monthly salaries at E6 entry level (3,589 EUR) total an annual gross of 43,068 EUR in Berlin (West). At E13 (6,807 EUR), that's 81,684 EUR a year - between Hesse (82,536 EUR) and Schleswig-Holstein (81,288 EUR).
Frequently asked questions
What exactly does the "West" suffix mean for Berlin?
It traces back to the city's historical division: wage agreements were negotiated separately for West and East Berlin for decades. This label has persisted in tariff geography to this day, even though the political division ended in 1990.
Why is there no commercial/technical split for Berlin (West)?
The source used shows only a single, unified figure for groups E9 through E13 in Berlin (West) - unlike the western flat-rate regions with their commercial/technical variant. Whether this uniformity reflects a simplification in the source or the real tariff structure isn't conclusively established.
