Saarland shares an identical wage table with neighboring Rheinland-Pfalz in the data used here (WSI Tarifarchiv, April 2025) - all 13 pay groups match exactly. This finding comes directly from the source itself and isn't yet confirmed by a dedicated document that explicitly states the overlap.

Saarland belongs to the historic Saar-Lor-Lux industrial region bordering France and Luxembourg; a close economic relationship with neighboring Rheinland-Pfalz is plausible accordingly, even though it isn't (yet) backed by a primary source here.

Pay groups E1 through E13

E1 sits at 3,130 EUR a month in Saarland, E6 (entry after completed vocational training) at 3,574 EUR, rising across four steps to 4,146 EUR after six years. The top commercial group E13 sits at 7,097 EUR.

As in every one of the 13 bargaining regions, E1 through E4 and E13 are flat figures with no tenure steps of their own, E5 rises at three and six years, and E6 through E12 rise at two, four and six years. This structure is identical in Saarland to every other region - only the actual euro figures differ.

What the pay groups describe

As everywhere else in this agreement family, the groups describe real responsibility levels, not arbitrary labels: E1 for briefly-instructed tasks, E6 for the entry point after a completed apprenticeship, E13 for independent commercial or technical duties built on extensive experience.

Working hours

The contractual week is 37.5 hours, with a divisor of 163.1. At 28 weekly hours (about 74.7% of full-time), a full E6 entry wage of 3,574 EUR would come to roughly 2,669 EUR of part-time base pay.

The 2026-2028 settlement

Saarland follows the same national steps as every other region: unchanged through end 2026, then 2.1% in January 2027 and 2.4% in January 2028. No region-specific published table exists for these steps - the calculator shows them as derived, not as a confirmed value.

Special payments

No independently confirmed source exists for Saarland's own holiday pay or annual bonus, so the calculator shows Nordrhein's confirmed figures as the nationwide default pattern. The nationwide Zukunftsbetrag (23%) is available, but only counts as cash once you explicitly select that usage.

Saarland compared with Rheinland-Pfalz

Since both regions show identical figures in this source, a direct comparison adds no new information - but a comparison with more distant regions like Bayern (E13 commercial: 6,679 EUR) or Baden-Württemberg (E13 commercial: 7,393 EUR) shows just how wide the spread across all 13 bargaining regions really is.

The annual view

Twelve monthly salaries at E6 entry level (3,574 EUR) total an annual gross of 42,888 EUR in Saarland, identical to Rheinland-Pfalz. At E13 commercial (7,097 EUR), that's 85,164 EUR a year.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the table for Saarland identical to Rheinland-Pfalz?

The source used shows the same figures for both regions across all 13 pay groups - a finding from the source itself, fitting the close economic ties of the Saar-Lor-Lux region, but not yet confirmed by a dedicated document that explicitly names the overlap.

Is there a separate apprentice pay table for Saarland?

Probably, but not yet independently confirmed - the calculator doesn't offer its own apprentice mode for Saarland as a result.
