Your salary numbers stay in your browser

Every calculation on this site (gross-to-net, ERA bands, Werkstudent, household comparison) runs entirely client-side, in your browser. The gross salary, tax class, state, and every other figure you enter is never sent to our servers, and there is no backend or database behind this calculator at all. The only exception is if you deliberately use a page's "Copy share link" feature, which encodes your inputs into the URL itself so you can share it. That data goes wherever you choose to send that link, not to us.

Hosting

This site is hosted on Vercel Inc. Because the calculator itself never sends your inputs anywhere, Vercel's role is limited to serving the page and its static assets. Ordinary connection metadata (like your IP address and request headers) is processed by Vercel as part of that, the same as any web host, under our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functional website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Cookies we ask permission for

When you first visit, a banner asks whether you'll allow two optional, cookie-setting services. Nothing below loads until you click "Allow" (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG). Declining or closing the banner keeps both off, and a small set of strictly necessary cookies that just remember your choice are set regardless, without requiring consent under § 25(2) TDDDG.

• Google Analytics (GA4): run by Google Ireland Limited, helps us understand which pages and features are actually used, so we know what to improve. We use IP anonymization, so your IP address is shortened by Google within the EU before any further processing. You can also opt out generally with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Google AdSense: shows ads that keep this calculator free to use. AdSense may set cookies to personalize which ads you see, and you can also manage ad personalization directly at myadcenter.google.com.

Changing your choice

The consent banner leaves a small tab in the corner of the screen after you've made a choice. Click it any time to reopen the banner and change your answer.

Your rights

Under GDPR, you can at any time and free of charge:

• ask what data we hold about you (right to access),
• ask us to correct inaccurate data (right to rectification),
• ask us to delete your data (right to erasure),
• withdraw any consent you've given, for the future, at any time, and
• lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, such as the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision.

SSL/TLS encryption

This site is served over an encrypted https:// connection, so any request you make to load a page (as opposed to the calculations themselves, which never leave your browser) is protected in transit.
