Carnival of Cultures
- 2 June 2028 – 5 June 2028
- Berlin, Berlin
Rule-based. This date is computed from a known, fixed calendar rule, not announced by anyone, but the rule itself isn't in doubt.
The street festival in Berlin-Kreuzberg traditionally takes place on the Pentecost weekend; in 2028 the parade falls on Pentecost Sunday, 4 June. The dates follow from Pentecost itself, and the programme has not been published yet.

About the Carnival of Cultures in 2028
The Karneval der Kulturen turns the streets of Berlin-Kreuzberg into a four-day celebration of the city's international communities. The main attraction is the parade, where dance groups, musicians and costumed performers move along a route through the district, while a street fair with stages and food stalls fills the area around Blücherplatz. Entry is free, and the festival is as much a neighbourhood party as a tourist attraction.
In 2028 our data lists the festival from Friday 2 June to Monday 5 June, with the parade on Pentecost Sunday, 4 June.
How the 2028 dates are derived
The festival follows the church calendar, so its dates are rule-based rather than negotiated each year. Easter 2028 falls on 16 April, which places Pentecost Sunday on 4 June and Whit Monday on 5 June. That is about three weeks later in the year than in 2027, when Pentecost came in mid-May.
The programme for 2028 has not been published yet. The parade route, stage line-up and exact opening times will appear on karneval-berlin.de closer to the date, so use our window as a planning frame and recheck once the organiser publishes details.
What to see and do
Parade day is the heart of the weekend: colourful costumes, percussion, dance and plenty of spectators on the pavements. The street fair continues over all days with live music and small stages. Early June usually means long daylight hours, which suits a festival that lives outdoors.
Beyond the festival, Kreuzberg rewards exploring: the Landwehr Canal, the Turkish market on the Maybachufer, street art and a long list of small shops and cafés. If you have time, combine it with a stroll through Treptower Park or a boat trip on the Spree.
Food and drink
Expect a global street-food map within a few streets. Stalls sell specialities from many countries, and nearby restaurants add Turkish, Lebanese, Vietnamese and other kitchens. Berlin favourites like currywurst and döner are never far away. Warm early-summer afternoons mean cold drinks and ice cream are in demand, and queues grow around midday.
Getting there and where to stay
Use the U-Bahn and the tram or bus network; street closures make driving a poor choice during the parade. Berlin Hauptbahnhof and BER airport each connect to the centre in roughly half an hour by public transport.
Accommodation in Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Friedrichshain or Mitte keeps your walks short. Pentecost is a popular long-weekend holiday in Germany, so hotels can be tight; reserve early and pick a flexible rate until the programme is known.
Planning around public holidays and bridge days in 2028
Whit Monday, 5 June 2028, is a public holiday in Berlin, so the festival's last day is free. The preceding holidays are Labour Day on Monday 1 May and Ascension Day on Thursday 25 May, which has Friday 26 May as a bridge day. Corpus Christi on 15 June is not a holiday in Berlin.
For Friday to Monday you need one vacation day if you want to arrive on Friday during the day, and none if you come after work. A longer trip is cheap too: take Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June, five vacation days, and with the weekends and Whit Monday you are away from Saturday 27 May until Monday 5 June, ten days in a row. Alternatively, use only the Friday and enjoy a four-day stretch with a single vacation day.
Tips and who it suits
The festival suits families, groups of friends and visitors who like dance and street food. Bring water, sun protection and patience for crowds on Sunday. Check the organiser's site for the confirmed programme before you go, and keep a few spare hours for exploring the district outside the festival.
