What Rock im Park is

Rock im Park is a large annual rock and alternative music festival in Nuremberg, held on the grounds around the Zeppelinfeld, part of the former Nazi Party rally grounds. The 2026 edition is listed in our event data as confirmed, from Friday 5 June to Sunday 7 June 2026. It runs the same weekend as its sister festival Rock am Ring at the Nürburgring, and the two festivals share the same line-up, with bands playing both sites over the weekend.

Because the status is confirmed you can plan around the dates. Line-up, ticket categories, camping rules and the running order are published by the organiser, so check the official page for current details. Strongly booked years often sell out months ahead, which we mention without quoting any numbers.

Dates and the Corpus Christi weekend

The festival runs Friday to Sunday, 5 to 7 June 2026. Just before it, on Thursday 4 June 2026, Corpus Christi (Fronleichnam) is a public holiday in Bavaria. That means visitors who live in Bavaria can arrive on a day off and have the Friday as the first festival day. In practice, camping areas and early programme parts often open before the main stage starts, so check the organiser's schedule for arrival times.

The three festival days follow the calendar of the weekend rather than a fixed date every year, so future years will fall on other dates. If you travel from a state where Corpus Christi is not a holiday, the Thursday is a normal working day, and you will need to plan around that.

Venue and character

The festival takes place on a large site in the south-east of Nuremberg, close to the Dutzendteich lake and the Max-Morlock-Stadion. The grounds are open air, with several stages and a large camping area. The festival culture is typical of big German open-air events: tents, shared camping, food stalls and a lot of walking between stages.

The location has a historical dimension. The Zeppelinfeld is part of the former Reichsparteitagsgelände, and the Documentation Centre Nazi Party Rally Grounds is nearby. If you arrive early or stay a day longer, the museum offers an exhibition on the history of the site. It is a serious, informative visit that contrasts strongly with the festival atmosphere.

What to do around the festival

Nuremberg's old town is within easy reach by tram, bus or U-Bahn. You can combine the weekend with a visit to the Kaiserburg, the Hauptmarkt and the old town lanes. Local food such as Nuremberg Rostbratwürste is easy to find in the old town, and in June the beer gardens are open.

For festival food and drink on the site, expect the usual range of fast food and beer. We do not quote any prices. Bring rain gear and sun protection, since June weather can be both hot and wet, and the open field offers little shade.

Getting there and where to stay

Nuremberg has direct long-distance trains from Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt and Würzburg. From the main station, local public transport runs to the festival grounds, and the organiser usually offers shuttle options and special tickets, so check the official page. Driving is possible, but parking is controlled and can be difficult on festival days.

Most visitors camp on the site. Camping tickets and rules are set by the organiser. If you prefer a bed, hotels in Nuremberg and nearby towns fill up quickly in festival weeks, so book early. Remember that on Thursday 4 June, a public holiday, travel can be busy, particularly on trains from Munich.

Public holidays and vacation days in Bavaria

For the 2026 edition, the useful date is Thursday 4 June, Corpus Christi, a public holiday in Bavaria. The festival starts on Friday 5 June. If you arrive on the holiday Thursday, you only need to take Friday off to be at the opening. That is 1 vacation day for a trip from Thursday to Sunday. If you want to arrive with the camping opening earlier, an extra day on Wednesday 3 June is needed.

If you live in a state without Corpus Christi as a holiday, a Friday to Sunday trip still costs 1 vacation day (the Friday) unless you can start work late. Monday 8 June is a normal working day in Bavaria, so plan the journey home on Sunday night or take the Monday off if you want to rest. Pentecost 2026 falls on 24 May, so it is not part of this weekend.

Tips and who it suits

Rock im Park suits music fans who enjoy a big festival with a camping culture. It is less suitable if you want comfort and quiet, since the camping area is busy and noisy. Buy tickets only from the official sales channels, read the rules on bags, glass and cans, and bring ear protection if you are sensitive to loud music.

Pack for both sun and rain, wear sturdy shoes, bring a portable charger, and agree a meeting point with friends in case phone networks are overloaded. Check the organiser's information on payment methods on site before you travel.
