Understand your salary

Who the Deutsche Post calculator covers
This calculator is for tariff employees of Deutsche Post AG using the standard monthly pay table in Anlage 2a of the ETV-DP AG. It is not a universal DHL salary calculator. A different group company, subcontractor or employment contract can apply different terms even when the work involves letters or parcels. Civil servants, employees on the technical table and the agreement's special reduced-pay leave models need their own rules and are outside this calculation.
Use the pay group and stage assigned by your employer. The standard grid contains groups 1 to 9, with different numbers of stages. Stage 0 is a real table column, but not every row extends to stage 8. The calculator does not infer your group from a job title or automatically classify your service history. Recognised prior service and individual arrangements are matters to confirm with payroll, your works council or the relevant union.
How the 2026 Post pay figures are established
The source chain begins with Deutsche Post AG's own ETV reading text, published by the ver.di Post Koblenz/Trier branch. Anlage 2a on page 41 contains the monthly standard table effective from April 2024. The employer's announcement of the March 2025 settlement then specifies a 2% rise from April 2025 and a further 3% rise from April 2026. We apply those steps in order and round each effective increase to cents.
The displayed 2026 grid is therefore a calculation from official sources, not a verbatim transcription of a newly published 2026 annex. That distinction matters when checking a particular cell or a later correction to an older document. January to March 2026 uses the first increased table; April to December uses the second. The agreement can first be terminated at the end of December 2026. No unverified March 2027 end date or future pay rise is assumed.
Read the three results together
Start with the month you want to understand, rather than an annual salary divided by twelve. The monthly gross figure is the recurring remuneration for that month and your selected working-time share. The take-home estimate applies your personal tax and insurance settings to that recurring pay. Annual gross answers a different question: how much contractual gross pay is modelled across the whole calendar year, including the selected special payments.
A pay rise during the year means twelve times December's salary is not your actual annual table pay. This calculator resolves every month against the applicable table before adding the year together. It holds your group, stage and working-time share constant, so a promotion, stage progression, unpaid month or change in hours requires a separate calculation. The results are a planning aid, not a replacement for payroll.
Personal details make the net estimate useful
In the personal-details section, check the tax class, federal state, age and health-insurance settings. Church membership affects church tax; children can affect payroll tax allowances and long-term-care contributions. Enter the additional contribution charged by your own statutory health insurer. A default insurer rate is only a starting point, not a statement about your actual insurance contract. For private insurance, use your own premiums and eligible basic coverage rather than a statutory percentage.
The regular-month estimate uses this website's existing German payroll engine, based on the official BMF payroll calculation procedure. It does not apply an assumed occupational pension scheme for your employer. Salary conversion, additional pension contributions, individual tax allowances and unusual payroll arrangements can therefore change your payslip. One-off payments are shown separately as gross amounts; the calculator does not claim that a Christmas payment has the same net ratio as regular salary.
Compare part-time hours on a consistent basis
Pay-table cells show full-time monthly gross amounts. The calculator applies your working-time percentage to the selected cell and rounds the payable result to cents. For example, 80% means four fifths of the contractual full-time weekly hours. It does not mean four fifths of the full-time net salary, because payroll tax and social contributions change with remuneration. Compare both the gross and estimated net figures before making a household budget.
Keep other settings the same when comparing working-time shares. Otherwise a change in tax class, insurance or stage can obscure the effect of the hours themselves. The annual calculation assumes your chosen share applies throughout the year, including the reference months for special payments. It cannot reconstruct a year in which you worked full-time until June and part-time afterwards. Use your employer's payroll statement for that history and check the agreement's reference-date rules.
Choose the right Christmas-payment option
Section 8 ETV-DP AG provides two payment arrangements for the thirteenth month's pay. One pays the October basic monthly remuneration in November. The other pays half of the October reference remuneration in November, together with monthly instalments of one twenty-fourth of the respective month's basic pay. The calculator offers both arrangements and an option to exclude this payment. New employment generally starts with the split arrangement under the source agreement.
The distinction affects the regular monthly gross and its estimated net. With split payment, the instalment belongs in each month's recurring remuneration. It also changes the annual amount slightly when table pay rises during the year, because earlier instalments use earlier monthly rates. The annual comparison assumes twelve eligible months, no changes in group or hours and no higher-duty allowance. Eligibility, reductions, payment elections and possible repayment obligations must still be checked against your own employment circumstances.
Holiday pay and additions outside the table
The holiday-pay checkbox starts off unchecked because entitlement must be confirmed. Section 7 of the source agreement specifies €332.34 for a full-time employee, proportionately reduced for part-time work. Its conditions include an unbroken employment relationship since 1 January, an employment relationship not under notice on 1 July and qualifying pay entitlement for at least part of July. Turning it on adds the corresponding gross amount to annual remuneration, without presenting it as ordinary monthly net.
Variable performance pay, regional allowances, shift supplements, overtime, employer savings contributions and individual protected entitlements are not included. In particular, an hourly recruitment advertisement may already include a portion of Christmas pay, so it is not directly comparable with a bare monthly table cell. The ETV also uses its own working-time conversion rules; this page avoids presenting an approximate hourly conversion as an official hourly tariff. Review the annual breakdown to see exactly which payments you have selected.
Check the result against your payslip
First match the agreement, group, stage and calculation month. Then compare table pay with table pay, before adding any allowances or bonuses. Your payslip may contain regional supplements, duties paid at a higher grade, shift premiums, savings contributions, pension deductions or protected individual pay. Those items should not be treated as evidence that the underlying table cell is wrong. This calculator deliberately keeps its standard-table scope visible.
If you find a difference, follow the original documents in the sources section and check their effective dates. Every table cell is stored as integer euro cents. A dash represents a stage that is not provided for that group; it is not a zero salary or permission to interpolate a missing amount. The separate pay-table page lets you explore the complete grid and carry a selected cell into this calculator. Personal tax and insurance details stay out of those links.
