What Rock am Ring is

Rock am Ring is one of Europe's largest rock and metal festivals, held at the Nürburgring racing complex in the Eifel region of Rheinland-Pfalz. The planner lists the 2027 edition from Friday 4 June to Sunday 6 June. According to the event data, around 90,000 fans camp on site for the three days, and headliners are usually announced more than a year ahead.

The planner lists this edition as confirmed. Unlike a free city festival, this is a ticketed event, and weekend tickets tend to sell out early, so the main question is not leave but whether you can get in.

Dates and how they are set

The festival runs on a Friday-to-Sunday weekend in early June, which is a stable pattern. For 2027 the dates are 4 to 6 June, and the organiser announced them early enough for the planner to mark them as confirmed. Camping typically opens before the music starts, but arrival times and the exact schedule are set by the organiser, so look at the official page.

Line-ups are released in stages. Because the event data says headliners are often announced more than a year ahead, you may already see names for 2027 on the official site, and you should rely on that source rather than on the planner for who plays on which day.

Character, sights and food

The atmosphere is that of a large camping festival: tents on the campsites, long days of music on several stages and a crowd that mostly dresses in band shirts. The Nürburgring setting is unusual, with a racing circuit and the Eifel landscape around it, and the Nürburg castle ruin nearby.

Food on site is festival fare: burgers, noodles, wraps, sausages and vegetarian options, with plenty of beer. Bring a lot of water in the heat and sun cream, and prepare for rain, which is common in June in the Eifel. If you have a spare day, the Eifel offers volcanic lakes, such as the Laacher See, and walking paths.

Getting there and where to stay

The Nürburgring is in a rural area. Many visitors arrive by car, by coach from larger cities or by train to a nearby station followed by a shuttle, and the official page lists the options. Roads around the track can back up on arrival and departure days, so allow extra time.

Most people camp on site as part of their ticket package, with other packages such as caravan or glamping options sold separately. If you prefer a bed, nearby villages and towns in the Eifel, Adenau among them, have guesthouses that fill up early. Book as soon as ticketing is open.

Planning around holidays and bridge days in 2027

The festival starts on Friday 4 June, so attending the first day normally costs one vacation day, taken on that Friday. If you arrive the evening before to set up camp, you may need to leave work early on Thursday 3 June, so a second half day or day might be needed. The weekend itself costs nothing.

In Rheinland-Pfalz the closest public holidays are earlier: Ascension on Thursday 6 May, Whit Monday on 17 May and Corpus Christi on Thursday 27 May 2027. None of these falls in the festival week, so there is no bridge day attached to the weekend. After the festival the next holiday is All Saints' Day on Monday 1 November 2027, and German Unity Day on 3 October is a Sunday without a substitute day.

A sensible plan is a Friday to Sunday trip with one vacation day, perhaps with Monday 7 June as an additional recovery day if you expect a long journey home.

Tips and who it suits

Rock am Ring suits rock and metal fans, groups of friends and campers who accept basic facilities. It is not a good fit if you need comfort, quiet or stable plans around the weather.

Buy tickets only from the official channels, pack for rain and sun, bring ear protection and plan your departure to avoid the worst traffic. Confirm the programme and rules on the organiser's site.
