Understand your salary
In this guide
Which Sparkasse agreement applies to you?
Many municipal savings banks apply TVöD together with the special Sparkasse provisions, known as BT-S or TVöD-S. That does not make one salary table valid for every bank with a similar name. Check the agreement named in your employment contract before using this calculator. Landesbanken, private banks, trainees and individually negotiated contracts can follow different arrangements. The current scope is the standard Anlage A grid, rather than every transitional or individual pay category.
Your employer assigns the pay group according to the applicable classification rules and the duties of the role. Your stage reflects the recognised experience and progression rules. Neither is safely determined from a job title such as adviser or branch manager alone. Select the entries shown on your payslip. The table is a reference for those assigned values, not a promise that a particular qualification automatically entitles you to a particular group.
The official Sparkasse pay tables for 2026
The monthly amounts come directly from VKA's consolidated Sparkasse agreement, Anlage A on pages 64 and 65. There are two applicable periods within calendar year 2026: the April 2025 table continues through April 2026, and the next table applies from May 2026. The calculator uses the appropriate amount for your selected month. Annual table pay combines four months at the earlier level and eight months at the later level.
The standard full-time basis in the agreement is an average of 39 hours a week, excluding breaks. A local or individual arrangement may require further checking. On the pay-table page, groups form the rows and stages form the columns, matching the site's public-sector references. Group 1 has no stage 1 in this grid. Missing stages remain empty instead of receiving fabricated amounts. The displayed figures are monthly gross pay before tax, insurance and any individual additional pension deductions.
Read the three results together
Start with the month you want to understand, rather than an annual salary divided by twelve. The monthly gross figure is the recurring remuneration for that month and your selected working-time share. The take-home estimate applies your personal tax and insurance settings to that recurring pay. Annual gross answers a different question: how much contractual gross pay is modelled across the whole calendar year, including the selected special payments.
A pay rise during the year means twelve times December's salary is not your actual annual table pay. This calculator resolves every month against the applicable table before adding the year together. It holds your group, stage and working-time share constant, so a promotion, stage progression, unpaid month or change in hours requires a separate calculation. The results are a planning aid, not a replacement for payroll.
Personal details make the net estimate useful
In the personal-details section, check the tax class, federal state, age and health-insurance settings. Church membership affects church tax; children can affect payroll tax allowances and long-term-care contributions. Enter the additional contribution charged by your own statutory health insurer. A default insurer rate is only a starting point, not a statement about your actual insurance contract. For private insurance, use your own premiums and eligible basic coverage rather than a statutory percentage.
The regular-month estimate uses this website's existing German payroll engine, based on the official BMF payroll calculation procedure. It does not apply an assumed occupational pension scheme for your employer. Salary conversion, additional pension contributions, individual tax allowances and unusual payroll arrangements can therefore change your payslip. One-off payments are shown separately as gross amounts; the calculator does not claim that a Christmas payment has the same net ratio as regular salary.
Compare part-time hours on a consistent basis
Pay-table cells show full-time monthly gross amounts. The calculator applies your working-time percentage to the selected cell and rounds the payable result to cents. For example, 80% means four fifths of the contractual full-time weekly hours. It does not mean four fifths of the full-time net salary, because payroll tax and social contributions change with remuneration. Compare both the gross and estimated net figures before making a household budget.
Keep other settings the same when comparing working-time shares. Otherwise a change in tax class, insurance or stage can obscure the effect of the hours themselves. The annual calculation assumes your chosen share applies throughout the year, including the reference months for special payments. It cannot reconstruct a year in which you worked full-time until June and part-time afterwards. Use your employer's payroll statement for that history and check the agreement's reference-date rules.
Understand the guaranteed Sparkasse special payment
The Sparkassensonderzahlung, or SSZ, follows § 44 BT-S and must not be replaced with the ordinary TVöD annual bonus rate. Its protocol declarations are essential: from 2022 the guaranteed rate is 74.77%, and from 2023 the October assessment remuneration is reduced to 96.88% of the relevant table pay. This calculator applies those two steps to the October table amount at your chosen working-time share, then shows the guaranteed payment separately in November.
The estimate assumes twelve qualifying months and employment on 1 December. Months without qualifying pay can reduce entitlement, subject to the agreement's exceptions. A local agreement under § 50a can provide up to two further leave days beyond the two tariff days, reducing the guaranteed rate by seven percentage points for each additional day. You can select those additional days here. The distinct exchange-day arrangement under § 50b is not modelled and must be checked separately.
Why variable SSZ components are kept separate
For bank-specific employees, SSZ also has individual-performance and company-success components. The agreement describes budgets, local arrangements, assessment methods and payout conditions. A budget allocated across the workforce is not automatically a guaranteed personal bonus of the same percentage. Company targets and the local service agreement can affect both the amount and timing. Non-bank-specific employees have different entitlement to the variable components, while the guaranteed component remains relevant.
This calculator therefore includes only the modelled guaranteed part and excludes variable SSZ from annual gross. It also excludes employer savings contributions, local supplements, salary conversion and individual occupational pension deductions. This is deliberately a transparent starting point for comparing table pay, rather than a claim to reproduce every Sparkasse's payroll. To complete your household budget, add confirmed variable payments separately and use your own pension statement. Never assume an uncertain bonus is available to meet a fixed monthly commitment.
Check the result against your payslip
First match the agreement, group, stage and calculation month. Then compare table pay with table pay, before adding any allowances or bonuses. Your payslip may contain regional supplements, duties paid at a higher grade, shift premiums, savings contributions, pension deductions or protected individual pay. Those items should not be treated as evidence that the underlying table cell is wrong. This calculator deliberately keeps its standard-table scope visible.
If you find a difference, follow the original documents in the sources section and check their effective dates. Every table cell is stored as integer euro cents. A dash represents a stage that is not provided for that group; it is not a zero salary or permission to interpolate a missing amount. The separate pay-table page lets you explore the complete grid and carry a selected cell into this calculator. Personal tax and insurance details stay out of those links.
