Public Sector Pay: Calculators for Tariff Employees and Civil Servants
Germany's public sector pays staff under two fundamentally different systems: tariff employees under collective agreements like TVöD, TV-L or TV-H, and civil servants (Beamte) under their own statutory Besoldung tables. This page links to whichever calculator applies to you.

Tariff Employees vs. Civil Servants
Tariff employees are paid by Entgeltgruppe and experience stage and are social-insurance contributors, so their net pay can be calculated the same way as any other employment relationship. Civil servants instead receive Besoldung by Besoldungsgruppe and stage; their deductions differ fundamentally from a tariff employee's (including Beihilfe instead of an employer share of health insurance), and whether they're covered by statutory or private health insurance depends on individual circumstances. This calculator currently shows civil servants only their base salary (gross), not a net figure.
What's Still Missing
Family allowance (Familienzuschlag), office allowances (Amtszulagen), and the VBL supplementary pension for Abrechnungsverband Ost aren't modelled yet; they'll be added once reliable sources are verified.
